IMPHAL, Nov 19 : The All India Football Federation (AIFF) responding to the All Manipur Football Association missive on the controversial Manipur versus Goa match in the ongoing Santosh Trophy football championship conveyed of Referees Committee set to review performance of the match referee.
The performance of the referee Mr Shaji Kurian, during the quarter-final of the Air India Express 60th national Football Championship for Santosh Trophy match between Manipur and Goa will be reviewed by the Referees Committee, said the AIFF General Secretary Alberto Colaco in a fax response to the AMFA intimation.
he further conveyed ‘this procedure is being followed whenever there are controversial decision by the referees and when we receive complaints from any con- cerned parties or read about this in the media’.
The AIFF missive also called upon AMFA authorities to participate in the tournaments which the State football body has threatened to boycott to protest alleged favouritism of match officials.
However, AMFA sources asserted that boycott stand remains unchanged.
on the other hand, in a telephonic conversation with The Sangai Express today Alberto Colaco rejected the general pu- blic’s perception that the Indian Federation’s influence had resulted in Manipur’s exit from the national football championship.
Rubbishing suspicion casts upon the AIFF and tourna-ment organisers of the Kerala edition, Colaco speaking from the Goa office of the Indian Feder- ation, said AIFF had never influenced organisers of any tournament held under its supervision.
reacting to the hue and cry raised by the State public on AIFF conspiring with the tournament organisers to ensure Manipur’s defeat, he said ‘We don’t both in other people’s speculation who have nothing to do with AIFF’. Colaco also declined comment when ques- tioned on what line of action would be resorted to again-st the match referee Shaji C Kurian or on AMFA threat to boycott all tournaments organised under AIFF.
Demanding ‘severest sanction’ against the match referee AMFA in a representation to the Indian Federation had threatened to withdraw State teams from the forthcoming Under-19 girls & boys and U-14 boys football festival/national championships.
Regarding recommendation of the Disciplinary Committee of Santosh Trophy for action against four Manipur players - goalkeeper Ingobi Singh, Mani- tombi Singh, Dharamjit and K Samson - the AIFF secretary conveyed of consulting Federation President Priya Ranjan Das Munshi and do the needful accordingly.
